Alabama

God bless the people in southern Alabama during this time of great sadness.

We are living in troubled times in America. It may be time for a day of prayer and fasting.

ALD- AMN

ALD/AMN. These are diseases that primarily strike males, although females are carriers. ALD is the childhood form while AMN is the adult (about 30 years old) form. Adrenoleukodystrophy is a serious progressive genetic disorder which affects the adrenal glands and the white matter of the nervous system. So does the adult form called adrenomyelonearopathy.

In children, the disease is considered more seriously mostly. A seemingly healthy boy is suddenly stricken with symptoms and is soon wheelchair or bedridden. Mental ability appears to lessen more and more or at least communication of what is inside does not make it to the surface. In adults, the age is about 30 when pain starts in the legs and adrenal malfunction becomes obvious with resulting sideaffects. Behavior does change although the exact point is difficult to date.

Public knowledge of the disease is little-known including law enforcement and emergency rooms. Law enforcement may think the person under the influence when in reality the disease causes them to stagger or walk with an uneven gait. People understand Addison's Disease so that may be the best thing to call it upon entry into a care facility, then further explanation, a copy of the disease particulars can be presented.

Fortunately, search engines can lead a person to more information. In the early days, people were considered mentally ill and treated accordingly but there are medications that help and mental illness is not a good conclusion, at least in the early stages. Many men function normally for many years.
